Cross “get passport” off to do list this Spring Break

Branch locations to open during special hours on Friday, March 25

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (March 17, 2016) – Is applying for a passport part of your family’s spring break plans? Spring break and summer are when the Clerk’s office sees its highest volume of passport applications at its branches in Belle Glade, Delray Beach and Palm Beach Gardens. Last year the Clerk’s office processed more than 22,000 passport applications.

On March 25, all three branch locations will accept passport applications during special Friday hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. No appointment is needed.

“Normally, both North and South County branches are closed to the public every Friday due to a lack of funding from our state Legislature,” said Sharon R. Bock, Clerk & Comptroller, Palm Beach County. “With more than 17 million new passport applications and renewals expected this year, we want to make it convenient for families and individuals planning to travel in the future to apply without missing work or school.”

All applicants including children must apply in person and bring the following documents:

Proof of Citizenship (Provide one of the following)

  • Previous U.S. Passport
  • Certified copy of your birth certificate (must have names of both parents)
  • Certificate of Naturalization

Proof of Identity (Provide one of the following)

  • Previous U.S. Passport
  • Valid Driver’s License (A temporary license does not meet this requirement)
  • State Identification Card
  • Certificate of Naturalization

The Clerk’s office will offer passport photos on site for an additional cost.

Note: Payments to the Department of State must be made by personal check, cashier’s check or money order ONLY (no cash or credit cards). A separate application fee to the Clerk & Comptroller’s office may be paid by cash, personal check, cashier’s check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover.

*If a customer’s passport has been expired for LESS than five years, the passport must be renewed by mail. Customers whose passports have been expired for MORE than five years and children under the age of 16 must reapply in person and may use the expired passport as proof of citizenship and identification.

Apply for a passport any time Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Clerk & Comptroller’s branch locations in Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Belle Glade. No appointment is necessary.

The Florida Constitution established the independent office of the Clerk & Comptroller as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. Clerk Sharon Bock is directly elected by and accountable to Palm Beach County residents. In addition to the roles of Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Recorder and Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk & Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Auditor for Palm Beach County.
