Clerk & Comptroller one of South Florida’s healthiest workplaces

Office is finalist for South Florida Business Journal’s Healthiest Employers Award

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (June 11, 2015) – The Clerk & Comptroller, Palm Beach County, is committed to healthier choices for its more than 760 employees, whether it is encouraging lunchtime walks or offering incentives for completing preventative health screenings.

That commitment to employees’ good health is why the South Florida Business Journal recently recognized the Clerk’s office as a finalist for its Healthiest Employers award. At the awards ceremony on June 4 in Fort Lauderdale, the Clerk’s office finished fifth out of 10 finalists in the Large Companies category, businesses with more than 500 employees.

“Our Clerks 4 Wellness programs benefit not only our staff but also the taxpayers in reduced healthcare costs and increase productivity,” said Clerk Sharon Bock.” I appreciate the South Florida Business Journal for recognizing the Clerk’s office and emphasizing wellness programs as an integral part of the workplace.”

The Clerk’s office recently earned platinum achievement status with the American Heart Association as a Fit Friendly Worksite, recognizing the Clerks 4 Wellness program’s work. The Clerk’s office is one of only three Palm Beach County employers recognized as a Platinum Fit Friendly Worksite.

Other Clerks 4 Wellness program accomplishments in the past year include:

  • The number of Clerk employees participating in preventive health screenings, such as annual physicals, eye exams and dental check-ups, increased by 18.7 percent.
  • Through the Wellness Champions program, employees educated and encouraged friends, family and co-workers regarding the overall improvement of their bodies and minds.
  • Employees and their families ran over 400 miles in USA Track & Field sanctioned races.

The Florida Constitution established the independent office of the Clerk & Comptroller as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. Clerk Sharon Bock is directly elected by and accountable to Palm Beach County residents. In addition to the roles of Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Recorder and Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk & Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Auditor for Palm Beach County.
