Only U.S. Organization Honored during International Conference Held in Germany

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (September 14, 2016) – Sharon R. Bock, Clerk & Comptroller, Palm Beach County will be recognized for her innovative Guardianship Fraud Program & Hotline during the 4th World Congress on Adult Guardianship in Berlin, Germany, September 14-17.

The Clerk’s office is the only organization in the United States and one of nine worldwide selected to be honored at the international assembly.

The three-day conference provides guardianship advocates from countries around the world a rare opportunity to share problems and solutions. Organizers of this bi-annual, worldwide symposium encourage international exchange on the ideas, concepts and practices of the protection of vulnerable adults.

“The exploitation of our most vulnerable citizens is not only an issue in the United States, it is a worldwide crisis,” said Clerk Sharon R. Bock, Esq. “I have made it my mission to team up with leaders on a national and international level to strengthen guardianship laws.”

Clerk Bock is a recognized leader in guardianship fraud investigations. Her Division of Inspector General was amongst Florida’s first to implement a Guardianship Fraud Program in 2009. Bock’s office has audited and investigated more than 900 guardianship cases since the inception of the hotline, leading to the identification of more than $5.1 million in unsubstantiated disbursements, missing assets and fraud.

Clerk Bock has also earned these distinguished awards:

  • Quality Senior Living Award, Florida Council on Aging, 2016
  • Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Award, American Society on Aging Conference, 2015
  • Joanne Otto Service Award, National Adult Protective Services Association, 2014

More than 350 international participants are scheduled to attend the 4th World Congress. The assembly will take place under the auspices of the German Federal Minister of Justice and for Consumer Protection and will be hosted by the German Betreuung Association in collaboration with the International Guardianship Network.
