Clerk & Comptroller employees donate thousands to local charities

Clerk staff raises almost $750,000 since 1994

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (December 14, 2015) – On Monday, December 14, members of Circuit Sound – the Clerk & Comptroller’s employee carolers – performed holiday favorites while generating money for Leonardo Robilotta, a two-year-old boy battling catastrophic epilepsy and cerebral palsy. Robilotta was nominated for the 2015 “Season to Share” campaign by Clinics Can Help. Each year, Circuit Sound randomly selects a Season to Share nominee to receive donations. This year, with the help of many, the Clerk’s office collected a record $1,500.

The Clerks for a Cause Charitable Giving Program was created to inspire employees to participate in philanthropic activities and give back to the community they serve. Employees participate in beach clean-ups, collections of books, school supplies, food, toys and fundraising activities. Through these initiatives employees raised more than $50,000 in 2015 alone.

Of the money raised, more than $40,000 was collected as part of the Dress Down Friday charity program. Since 1994, this program has helped raised almost $750,000. Earlier this year, Clerk employees participated in the United Way’s Hunger Heroes campaign collecting 4,135 lbs. of food for the Palm Beach County Food Bank, the most of any participating organization.

Despite the Clerk’s office experiencing economic turmoil and a budget shortfall of $2.6 million last fiscal year, employees still use their free time and efforts to help the community they live in.

“I am so proud of my wonderful employees, who share the true meaning of public service. We believe that one small act of kindness can change the world and we will continue to be a part of that change,” said Clerk Sharon Bock.

The Florida Constitution established the independent office of the Clerk & Comptroller as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. Clerk Sharon Bock is directly elected by and accountable to Palm Beach County residents. In addition to the roles of Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Recorder and Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk & Comptroller is the Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Auditor for Palm Beach County.
