Certified copies may be ordered online* or obtained from the Clerk's Records Service Center at the Main Courthouse or from one of our branch locations. If your license was obtained in another county or state, you must search the records in that county or state.

You must provide the exact date that the marriage ended and how it was ended. Documentation (for death, divorce, annulments, etc.) is not required.

Both parties must apply in person and each must provide one of the following forms of identification:

• Driver’s license
• Federal or state identification card
• Passport showing your name and date of birth
• Birth certificates or green cards are NOT acceptable for identification.

Additionally, both parties must read the Family Law Handbook prior to obtaining a marriage license.

You may request an appointment to apply in person at any Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller location. Note, you must use the Chrome, Edge or Safari web browser to request an appointment to apply in person.

Couples who are unable to do an in-person appointment may be eligible to apply for a marriage license entirely online only after meeting additional requirements.

The following persons can perform a marriage ceremony in the state of Florida:

• All regularly ordained ministers of the gospel, elders in communion with a church or other ordained clergy.
• A minister who has been recognized in the manner required by the regulations of the respective denomination to perform marriage ceremonies.
• All Florida judicial officers, including retired judicial officers.
• Public notaries of the State of Florida. Visit the State of Florida’s site to learn more about the public notary’s duties when performing marriages.
• All persons connected with the Society of Friends, or Quakers, who perform or have charge of the marriage ceremony according to their rites and ceremonies.
• Captains of a ship, if the captain is a notary and the ship is in Florida waters, which is within three geographic miles from the coastline at the time of the ceremony.
• Clerks of the Circuit Court: Deputy clerks are authorized and available during normal working hours, Monday through Friday, to perform ceremonies at Clerk locations in Palm Beach. Appointments are required for marriage ceremonies during our normal business hours with your valid marriage license.
  

After the ceremony you are required to return the original marriage license to the Clerk’s office and upon receipt you will receive a courtesy certified copy of the recorded marriage license (additional certified copies can be purchased online* or obtained from the Clerk's Records Service Center at the Main Courthouse or from one of our branch locations.

You will take the certified copy to the Social Security Administration,* the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, or any other agency you deem necessary to change your name on those records.  

*The Social Security office does NOT accept electronically certified documents. Any certified copy needed for a name change or benefits with the Social Security office will need to be obtained by mail or in person from one of our office locations.
