Clerk Joseph Abruzzo is warning Palm Beach County residents to be on the lookout for phone calls from scammers who impersonate Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller employees and fraudulently demand money to avoid being served with a court summons.

One resident reported he received a call from an actual Clerk’s office phone number and was told to pay $700 or else he would be served with a summons to appear in court.  The phone number was spoofed by a scammer as part of the hoax.

Clerk’s office employees do not call people to demand payment to avoid being served with a court warrant, summons or subpoena.

“If you receive one of these calls, write down as much information as you can, and contact my office as soon as possible,” Clerk Abruzzo said. “If you believe you were a victim of one of these scams, make sure you call your city’s police department or call the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report the crime.”

If you have questions, contact the Clerk’s office at 561-355-2996 or email ClerkWeb@mypalmbeachclerk.com
